ABOUT US

In 1957 our grandfather saved up enough money to buy his own first piece of land, named Haardekraal. Oupa Gert was born in 1928 into a family of six children and at 14 years of age, he lost his mother. Living on a farm in Balfour, Mpumalanga, his father was not able to provide for all six children. Family of their neighbours, Mr & Mrs Van Aswegen, took him into their care and moved to Roedtan, Limpopo. Building himself up from nothing, after 15 years of hard work he was able to start his own farming journey and expand the business as well as his own family.

Today, we are three generations living and working on the farm, Haardekraal. Oupa Gert has been an excellent example and mentor to us. His tenacity and passion for farming, nature and life in general, encompass the values that Haardekraal stand for. At the age of 92 years, he is still helping where he can. Haardekraal was the building blocks for Oupa Gert and now it will be the building blocks for our brand. 

 

 OUR INSPIRATION

We do not want to be just another brand on the block. Embracing art is what makes Haardekraal special and unique.

Every design is hand drawn by Jaco Janse van Rensburg. Being a self-taught artist, makes him definitely one of the best up and coming artists from South Africa. The passion and dedication that he puts into his art can not only be seen, but felt as well. Jaco is one of the most hard working people, balancing his job and finding time to focus on and produce high quality art without compromise.

Every photograph on the website was taken by myself, Gerdehann Pienaar. In my last year of high school I grew an interest in photography. I have always loved nature and strived to capture the milky way. Living on the farm in a small town like Roedtan, I had to taught myself by studying YouTube videos and following creators that I look up to. The privilege of being a farmer gives me the ability to call nature my office and provides countless opportunities to capture those moments.

The JPX Safaris edition of Haardekraal is a part of our wildlife section. This section of our farm is controlled by my younger brother, Jandré Pienaar. Here one is able to visit, overnight, hunt and simply enjoy the fresh air in the heart of the Bushveld.
